SWTJ team arrives in Tohoku!

April 10

Our five-member SWTJ team left Kyoto on April 9 and arrived in Shiogama near Sendai in Tohoku on April 10 with a van full of supplies including camping gear, food, utensils for soup kitchens, hygenic supplies, flu masks, books, LED lights, a cotton-candy machine, and also a a power generator and a pongashi machine to make popped rice (the Japanese way of making popcorn!) which were lent to us for free.
The main purpose of the April 9-14 SWTJ mission is to bring some comfort to some of the many people who still live in dire conditions in shelters or damaged homes in the areas affected by the earthquake. The team also collects information on how SWTJ can best help over the long term- we will be back in Tohoku soon! One month after 3/11, many volunteers are leaving Tohoku because they need to go back to work or daily life. But support and cooperation are needed not for weeks, but for months, and years.
Let's stand by Tohoku over the long term!
SWTJ (Solidarity with Tohoku, Japan)

We thank the many people who donated supplies and money or bought our stickers, the volunteers who work hard in the office or sell stickers for fundraising, and all those who helped load the van at Seikado on Teramachi-dori in Kyoto in front of the SWTJ office!
